Sardar Harmeet Singh Dhillon born in village Bhakna Kalan Distt Amritsar Panjab India. Often identified by the name of his village Bhakna. Harmeet Singh Bhakna is a dedicated campaigner, raising awareness for Panjabi language in the UK and internationally. He started campaigning in April 2015 when the UK examination board AQA announced that they were stopping Panjabi A Level qualifications from 2017. This campaign was successful. AQA reversed their decision on 21st April 2016 and decided to continue Panjabi and other languages A Level examinations in the UK.
He extensively campaigned for Panjabi language in the UK Census 21/3/2021.
Harmeet Singh Bhakna also organised the first Saragarhi Day commemoration dinner after 1947 in British Parliament on Thursday 12th September 2024 to honour our mother tongue Panjabi heroes of 36th Sikh Regiment who sacrificed their lives in the Battle of Saragarhi.
He is currently campaigning for the teaching of Panjabi langauge and other Indian languages in UK mainstream schools by law to increase the numbers of GCSE and A level students according to the SKILLS ENGLAND initiative introduced by the UK government on 17 July 2024.
